Solar energy production has been increasing in Vermont by 50 GWh per year according to the U.S. Energy Information Agency’s Electricity Data Browser. Together with Deerfield’s 9 GWh per year effective increase in wind energy from 2009 to 2018, Vermont Yankee’s 5000 GWh per year will be replaced if these rates of solar and wind deployment continue for eighty-five years. However, almost no new commercial solar projects were planned as of November 2019, putting the current rate of solar increase in doubt.
